I was in a bad mood while making dinner. The dog kept barking from the living room and not only was it annoying me further, but I couldn’t figure out what was motivating him. I peered over at him a couple times from the kitchen to get a clue, and each time he stopped barking, just looked at me, and wagged his tail. In my soured state it took me awhile to realize that maybe he just wanted me to play with him. After all, our family had been gone for quite a few hours today. So begrudgingly I paused my dinner making and went over to him. We got on the couch and played with his toy. His tail wagged earnestly and his eyes gleamed, and we ended up hugging and cuddling. Like always, he made me smile and laugh. Then it occurred to me: without even knowing it, he’d given me exactly what I’d needed…even though I hadn’t even known I’d needed it.
Anyone who doesn’t think dogs are in tune to a higher power should think again. That’s just my take, of course.
